## Documentation Index Access the complete documentation index at: https://www.zoho.com/ca/books/help/llms.txt Use this file to discover all available documentation pages before proceeding. # T5018 Slip If your business earns more than half of its income from construction and has paid a Canadian subcontractor over $500 for construction services, you must issue a T5018 slip to report those payments to the CRA. This ensures compliance and reduces underground activity in the industry. If a subcontractor also worked as an employee, report their employment income on a T4 slip and their subcontractor earnings on a T5018 slip. Businesses that do some construction work but aren’t primarily in construction may not need to file under the **Contract Payment Reporting System** (CPRS). **Scenario:** Zylker Constructions, a building contractor, hires Patricia, a Canadian subcontractor, for a commercial project. Over the fiscal year, they pay Patricia more than $500 for construction services. To comply with CRA regulations and maintain transparency, Zylker Constructions issues a T5018 slip to report the payments. ## How T5018 Slip Works In Zoho Books, enable the **T5018 Slip** option while creating or editing a vendor to track the payments made to the respective vendor. Once enabled, all paid transactions of that vendor will be tracked as payments to be included in the T5018 Slip report. Next, generate the T5018 Slip for the applicable **Calendar Year** or **Fiscal Year** based on your filing period, then map the accounts to the box, select vendors, and review the details. Once the T5018 Slip is generated, you can download it as a **XML** file and file it in the [CRA Tax Portal](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/e-services/filing-information-returns-electronically-t4-t5-other-types-returns-overview/filing-information-returns-electronically-t4-t5-other-types-returns-file/filing-internet-file-transfer.html). Then, you can mark it as filed in Zoho Books and email a copy to the vendors. ## Enable T5018 Slip Tracking for Vendors To track all payments made to your vendors for T5018 filing: * Log in to your Zoho Books organization. * Go to _Purchases_ on the left sidebar, and select **Vendors**. * Click **\+ New** in the top right corner to create a new vendor, or select an existing vendor, and click **Edit** on the _Details_ page. * In the _New Vendor_ or _Edit Vendor_ page, fill in the necessary details. Scroll down to the _Other Details_ tab, select **T5018 Slip** in the \* Tax Tracking Type field, and enter the vendor’s **Tax ID**. * Click **Save**. Now, once you enable this option for the vendor, all purchase transactions you create for that vendor going forward will be included in the T5018 Slip report when generated. ## Generate T5018 Slip **Note:** If your business deducted tax or paid vendors over the $500 threshold, you must issue a T5018 Slip. When T5018 tracking is enabled for vendors, all paid transactions for that vendor are reviewed, and only those meeting the threshold are included in the T4A Slip. To generate: * Log in to your Zoho Books organization. * Go to _Tax Returns_ on the left sidebar, and select **T4A/T5018**. * Click **Generate T5018 Slip** in the top right corner. * In the page that follows, under the _Map Accounts_ tab, fill in the following fields: * **Tax Slip:** Select T5018 as the form. * **Filing Year:** Choose either **Fiscal Year** or **Calendar Year** based on your preferred filing mode for the T5018 Slip. * Once you select the tax slip and year, the required box for the T5018 Slip will appear. **Note:** Map the accounts to the box, and Zoho Books will calculate the value based on payments made to vendors in the fiscal or calendar year and the overall Vendor-level CRA-set thresholds. * Hover over the box and click **Add Accounts**. In the _Select Account_ popup, under _Recommended Accounts_, you’ll see a filtered list of accounts based on those used for recording purchase transactions of T5018-tracked vendors. Select the appropriate one to add to the box. * If your account isn’t listed under _Recommended Accounts_, go to _All Accounts_ to manually select the account you want to add for the box, and click **Select**. * Click **Next**. * In the _Select Vendors_ tab, filter vendors based on tracked transactions and the overall CRA threshold: * **Tracked and Qualified Vendors:** This filter shows vendors whose payments meet the CRA’s vendor-level threshold for the selected boxes and have their accounts correctly mapped for tracking: * All these vendors are preselected by default. If you don’t want to include a particular vendor, you can simply unselect them. * If you want to exclude transactions for a vendor manually, click the vendor, go to the _Reportable Payments_ tab on the next page, hover over the transaction, and click **Exclude** on the right side. After excluding the necessary transactions, click **Save** to confirm the changes. * **Tracked and Unqualified Vendors:** This filter shows the vendors whose transactions are tracked and mapped to the correct boxes, but their transactions do not meet the CRA thresholds for the mapped box. You can manually add their transactions to qualify them for T5018 Slip filing. Here’s how: * Hover over the unqualified vendor and click **Qualify** Vendor. * On the next page, go to the _Non-Reportable Payments_ tab. * Hover over the required transactions and click **Include**. * Select the boxes to map the transactions. * Click **Save**. **Note:** When you include a **Non-Reportable Payment**, vendors who meet the CRA threshold will qualify. Otherwise, they will remain under **Tracked and Unqualified Vendors**. * **Non-Tracked Vendors:** This filter includes vendors whose payments aren’t tracked yet. Click **Track Payments for T5018** to start tracking. * Click **Next**. * In the _Review_ tab, check each vendor’s _Tax ID_, _Address_, and box value. If any details are missing, a warning will appear for that vendor. Hover over the warning and click **Add Now**. * In the _Edit Vendor_ popup, fill in any details that you’ve missed or in case you want to add any details of the vendor. If you want to exclude or include any reportable or non-reportable payments, click **View Details** to the right of the vendor. In the page that follows, under _Reportable Payments_, select a box, and click **Exclude** against the transaction you don’t want to include for the vendor. * After reviewing the details, click **Save and Generate** at the bottom. **Insights:** * **Reportable Payments** are the total vendor payments from mapped accounts that qualify for CRA reporting. * **Non-Reportable Payments** are the total vendor payments that don’t qualify for CRA reporting, either because they come from unmapped accounts or because payments from mapped accounts didn’t meet the threshold. ## Export the T5018 Slip for Filing Once you generate the T5018 form, you can export it as an XML file compatible with the CRA Portal. To export the T5018 Slip: **Insight:** Your **Organization Profile** details will be used by default when you export for filing or when you send the T5018 Slip PDF to the vendor after filing with the CRA. A popup will display these details, and you can edit them if needed. Ensure the organization details match the business information you have provided to the CRA. * In the _T5018 Report_ page, click **Export for Filing** in the top right corner. * In the _Organization Profile_ popup, fill in the following fields: * **Tax ID:** Enter the 9-digit tax ID. * **Organization Name:** This field will be auto-populated based on your business’s _Organization Profile_, but you can edit it if needed. * **Legal Business Name:** Enter your business’s legal name if it differs from the organization name. * **Email Address:** Provide your business email. * **Organization Address:** The address will be auto-filled based on your _Organization Profile_. If it isn’t, you can enter the address details manually. You’ll need to enter the phone number manually. * Click **Save and Proceed**. In the _Export T5018 Slip As XML_ popup, enter the filer’s contact details: * **Contact Name:** Enter the filer’s name. * **Email Address:** Enter the filer’s email. * **Phone Number:** Enter the filer’s phone number. * Click **Export**. Now, the T5018 form will be downloaded onto your computer in XMLformat, which is CRA-compatible. Once downloaded, you can file it directly with the CRA. Learn more about [how to file E-file information with the CRA](https://www.irs.gov/filing/e-file-information-returns-with-iris). ## Mark T5018 Slip as Filed Manually After filing the generated T5018 slip with the CRA, you can return to Zoho Books and manually mark the T5018 slip as filed on the generated T5018 Slip page. Here’s how: * In the _T5018 Slip_ page, click the _More_ icon in the top right corner, and select **Mark as Filed** from the dropdown. * In the _Mark T5018 Slip for %year% As Filed_ popup, fill in the following fields: * **Filing Date:** Choose the date you filed T5018 Slip with the CRA. * **Notes:** Add any relevant notes if required. * Click **Mark as Filed**. The T5018 Slip will now be marked as **Filed**. **Note:** You can undo the action by following the same steps above and clicking **Mark as Unfiled** at the top of page. ## View the Details of Vendors Filed in T5018 Slip To view the details of the vendors included in the T5018 Slip: * Log in to your Zoho Books organization. * Go to _Tax Returns_ on the left sidebar, and select **T4A/T5018**. * Select the T5018 slip you generated to view the vendor details. * In the _T5018 Slip_ page, hover over the vendor and click **View Details**. Now, you’ll see the vendor’s details and their transactions you’ve included in the T5018 Slip you generated and filed with the CRA.
