# Can I make payments to only a few employees in a pay run?

It depends on how you’ve set up your payroll.

*   If you’re using **Direct Deposit** for all employees, you can **skip certain employees** from the pay run and approve it. This way, only the selected employees will be paid. However, you cannot re-add the skipped employees or reprocess their payments for the same pay period.
*   If your employees’ **payment modes are set to Cheque**, you can pay selected employees outside Zoho Payroll (e.g., by cheque or cash) and **record their payments manually**. The pay run will remain in the **Pending** status until all employees are paid, and you cannot process your next pay run until the current one is marked complete.
