# When should I run payroll so my employees are paid on time?

If you’ve set up **Direct Deposit** for your organization and for at least one employee in a payroll, you must process and **approve the payroll at least 4 business days before the pay date**. This ensures that your employees are paid on time.

For example, if your pay day falls on a Friday, you should approve the payroll **by the end of the previous Monday**.
