# How IM Credits Work

Once you enable WhatsApp notifications for your Zoho Commerce store, you need IM credits to send messages to your customers. These credits are used whenever a WhatsApp notification is sent through your configured templates.

## What are IM Credits?

IM credits are the billing units used to send WhatsApp notifications through Zoho Commerce. These credits are consumed based on the type of message template and the recipient’s region.

The amount deducted depends on the template category and the conversation charge applied by WhatsApp. For example, a utility message may cost less than a marketing message.

**Note:** Each time a WhatsApp notification is sent, the balance is reduced according to the template category and the recipient’s region. View WhatsApp’s current pricing and rate card for the latest conversation charges.

## How Credits are Deducted

When a customer receives a WhatsApp notification from your store, Zoho Commerce deducts the corresponding amount from your available IM credits.

For example:

*   One credit may cost approximately 10.30 USD.
*   A utility message may cost around 0.0200 USD.
*   Based on the pricing, you can send several utility messages with a single credit.

The actual number of messages you can send depends on:

*   The template category
*   The region of the recipient
*   The type of conversation
*   The current WhatsApp pricing policy

**Insight:** If you send a large number of messages, it is useful to monitor your credit balance regularly so you can top up before your notifications run out.

## Buy IM Credits

To buy WhatsApp IM credits:

*   Go to **Settings** and then select **WhatsApp** under _Integrations & Marketplace_.
*   Click **Buy IM Credits** at the top of the WhatsApp configuration page.
*   Under Nonrecurring Add-Ons, click **Buy More**.
*   Select the number of credits you want to purchase and click **Proceed**.
*   Click **Proceed to Pay**.

You will be redirected to a payment page where you can complete the transaction. Once the payment is successful, the credits will be added to your Zoho Commerce organization.

Usage is then automatically deducted each time a WhatsApp notification is sent from your store.
