# Is deleting an employee from Zoho Payroll the same as ending employment?

No. **Deleting** an employee and **ending employment** mean different things in Zoho Payroll.

**Delete** an employee only when the profile was created by mistake or with errors and should not stay on your records. Deletion is usually only possible if the employee has not been included in a pay run and has no payroll history you need to keep.

To offboard someone who is leaving your organisation, use **End Employment** instead. That sets the final working day, creates a Final Settlement Payroll when needed, and moves them to **Former Employees** after final pay is complete.
