# Can I start using Zoho Payroll from the middle of a year?

You can switch to Zoho Payroll at any time during the calendar year. However, transitioning at the beginning of the year or at the start of a quarter is generally easier, as it requires less prior payroll data to set up your organization and calculate accurate year-to-date (YTD) values.

If you’re switching mid-year, you’ll need to [import your prior payroll data](/us/payroll/help/employer/prior-payroll.html) for the current year before running your first pay run in Zoho Payroll. This ensures accurate tax reporting and compliance.
