Geo Maps

Geo Maps turn location data into insights you can see. They plot your data on a map of the world, a continent, or a country, so you can quickly spot where your numbers are highest, where they're growing, and where they need attention.

Each location in your data, whether a country, state, city, zip code, airport, or exact latitude and longitude, appears on the map as a point, bubble, pie, cluster, heat area, or shaded region. Color and size represent the values, and you can zoom, filter, and drill down to explore the details behind any location.

Use Geo Maps to make location-based decisions across your business:

  • Sales performance: Spot the territories that drive revenue, compare them against targets, and spot regions where growth is slowing.
  • Market expansion: Find untapped markets by mapping customer density against your store, branch, or partner coverage.
  • Marketing: Measure campaign reach, lead volume, and conversion by region to plan where to spend next.
  • Supply chain and logistics: Track delivery times, warehouse load, and shipment delays by hub or route to remove bottlenecks.
  • Customer support and operations: Pinpoint where tickets, incidents, or outages cluster, so you can staff and respond faster.
  • Risk and compliance: Monitor fraud, claims, or safety incidents by location to catch emerging hotspots early.
  • Site and space analysis: Plot data on floor plans, store layouts, or sports fields to see foot traffic, space use, or player performance.

Beyond world and country maps, you can plot data over any image you upload, such as a campus map or a warehouse diagram, and over custom shapes like sales territories or delivery zones imported from spatial files.

Who can create a Geo Map?

Any Zoho Analytics user who can create reports in a workspace can create a Geo Map.

What you need

Your table needs at least one location column with a geo data type. Zoho Analytics supports:

  • Continent, Country, State/Province, County, and City names or codes
  • Zip Code
  • Latitude and Longitude
  • Airport (IATA codes)
  • Geometry and Custom Geometry columns from spatial files

Zoho Analytics detects most location columns and sets their geo data type when you import data. If a column isn't detected, change its data type in the table, or use Treat as Geo in the chart designer to treat it as a location in that report only. To learn more, see Preparing Geo Data.

Choose a map type

All map types use a geo column in the X-Axis shelf. Pick a type based on the question you want to answer.

Map typeBest for
Map - ScatterShowing exact locations as equal-size points
Cluster MapGrouping many dense points into clusters you can zoom into
Map - HexbinComparing density across areas with a fixed grid of hexagons
Map - BubbleComparing amounts by location
Map - PieShowing the category share in each location
Map - Bubble PieShowing the category share and the total together
Map - FilledComparing values across regions such as states or countries
Geo Heat MapShowing density or intensity as a continuous surface

Create a Geo Map

To create a Geo Map:

  • Open your workspace, click Create, and select Chart View.
  • Select the table that has your location data.
  • Drag the geo column (for example, State) to the X-Axis shelf.
  • Drag a column to the Color shelf (for example, Warehouse_ID as Count).
  • You can also drag a measure to the Size shelf or columns to the Include Columns for Tooltip shelf.
  • Click the Map Chart icon in the chart type toolbar. The map opens as Map - Scatter by default.
  • To use another map type, click the Other Possible Charts icon (⋮) at the end of the chart type toolbar and select the type.
  • Click Save.

Note: If the map chart icons don't appear, your location column is likely set to Text. Change it to a geo data type or use Treat as Geo.
