Do I need my HMRC employer references to start using Zoho Payroll?

Yes. To run payroll and report to HMRC through Real Time Information (RTI), Zoho Payroll needs your organisation’s HMRC employer references:

  • Employer PAYE reference – Identifies your organisation to HMRC for PAYE (in a format like 000/XXXXXXXXXX).
  • Accounts Office reference – Used when you pay HMRC what you owe (in a format like 000PA0000000X).

You’ll find both on the letter HMRC sent when your organisation registered as an employer. Add them under Settings > Taxes > Tax Details, where you can also set your PAYE payment frequency and any reliefs you’re eligible for, such as Small Employers’ Relief and Employment Allowance.

For the full checklist, see What information do I need to get started with Zoho Payroll? and the Tax & National Insurance help page.
